How to plant Lemon Trees from Seeds and make it Bear Fruit in a Year

Most Lemon growers specially those who sell grafted or budded lemons would say that lemon plants grown from seeds would only produce fruits after 5 years. But for me, you can make it bear fruit within  a year as long as you give it three things it need, direct sunlight at least 8hrs a day, water and fertilizer.

When planting lemons, it needs to be at a place where it can give it direct sunlight. Not in a shaded part nor indirect sunlight. It needs full sun.

When the lemon plant is still young, you don't need to give it water everyday yet and fertilizer. When you water it, water it every 3 days or when the soil is dry. If you planted it in a container, the container should have a lot of drainage holes from the bottom and the sides like the air pruning pots. Lemons plants doesn't like the soil to hold water or else it will have root rot or fungus.

When the lemon plants is around 1 to 2 months and already has 4 leaves, you can start feeding it with nutrients and watering everyday. Lemon plants are heavy feeders so if you use synthetic fertilizer, dissolve it in water and give it to the lemon weekly. It needs to be in the afternoon when the sun is setting and 2 inch away from the plant to prevent burn. Water it first before apply the fertilizer. Remember, it needs to be weekly applied when using synthetic fertilizer because lemon plants are heavy feeders. I suggest using high nitrogen fertilizer like those are meant for citrus plants but you can also use 14-14-14 fertilizers.

Another fertilizer which I can recommend that works well with lemon plants and also free is urine. Urine is a complete fertilizer with high nitrogen and acidic that's why lemon plants love it. You can apply it everyday but for young lemon plants specially those that are in a container you need to dilute it. 1 Liter of Urine to 10 liters of water or a pail of water. Water it everyday in the afternoon. When your lemon plant is already a year and planted directly in the soil, no need for dilution. You can apply pure urine on it as long as you water only the soil and not the plant. It needs to be 2 inch away from the plant to prevent burn. Urine is an organic fertilizer so for those organic fanatics you can try this one.

Another alternative organic fertilizer is rice water or what they call "hugas bigas" in the Philippines. Wash the rice 3x and collect the water used then you can use it to water the lemon plant any time of the day.

If you do this tips, I am 100% sure your lemon plant from seeds will produce fruits within a year. Just continue doing this procedure if you want to have lemon fruits all year round. I suggest watering your lemon with urine. I also do this to my plants. Very effective.
